Innovation scales through ecosystems and leadership scales through people
Technology innovation has never been a solo endeavour. Behind every major shift, from the rise of cloud computing and enterprise mobility to today's AI-driven world, lies an ecosystem of partners helping organizations translate potential into tangible outcomes. In my role as Head of Partner Sales for Asia Pacific at HPE, I see firsthand how essential this ecosystem is in delivering meaningful impact for customers and the broader industry.
Across APAC, partners' roles have evolved significantly. They are no longer simply implementing technology but are shaping solutions alongside us. Innovation today is co-developed, with partners bringing deep industry expertise and local insight to empower organizations to navigate complexity and accelerate transformation. Their ability to do this depends not just on access to technology, but on whether we invest in their growth.
Over time, I have come to realize that this principle applies just as strongly to people as it does to partner ecosystems. Organisations that invest in trust, access, and opportunity create the conditions for talent to evolve into leadership. When leaders do this deliberately, they open pathways for individuals, more so for women in technology, to progress in ways that may not otherwise have been possible.
Ecosystems only work when organizations give first
Thriving ecosystems are intentionally built, not organically assumed. Organisations that invest consistently in enablement, capability building, and co-innovation create the foundation for partners to move beyond participation and actively drive customer transformation with confidence.
This philosophy has also shaped my own career journey. I began in Singapore as an accountancy graduate at an auditing firm, and over time, was entrusted with opportunities across strategy, operations, and regional leadership at HPE. At every stage, leaders placed trust in my potential ahead of certainty, shaping both my growth and my understanding of leadership as an act of empowerment.
For women in technology, this kind of investment is especially critical, as career progression is often shaped by access to opportunity. When organizations create clear pathways and hold themselves accountable for developing talent, they expand what is possible for the next generation of leaders. The same philosophy underpins our channel-first approach. By continuing to innovate and invest in partner enablement and competencies across AI, hybrid cloud, and networking, we empower partners to differentiate through expertise, remain competitive by leveraging our innovation, and deliver greater value to customers while strengthening the broader ecosystem.
AI, Hybrid Cloud, and Networking are creating new leadership opportunities, but women remain underrepresented
Today, AI, hybrid cloud, and networking are not just advancing enterprise technology, but they are redefining where leadership emerges. As infrastructure becomes intelligent and distributed, organizations are creating new leadership opportunities across vendors, partners, and service organizations focused on integration, governance, and driving real-world outcomes from innovation.
Yet representation has not kept pace with opportunity. Women remain underrepresented in senior technology leadership roles, even as AI, networking, and cloud transformation expand new pathways to leadership. Ensuring access to these opportunities is essential to building a more innovative and resilient industry.
Inclusive ecosystems are not just equitable but are essential to business success. They accelerate innovation, improve decision-making, and strengthen organizational resilience. Advancing and retaining women requires deliberate investment in talent, leadership pathways, and meaningful long-term engagement.
Leadership that gives forward builds the future
Leadership mirrors the partner ecosystem itself. Just as organizations invest in partners to help them succeed, leaders must invest in people. This means creating space for others to grow, supporting their development, and trusting them with new challenges.
Looking back, the leaders who influenced me most were those who believed in my potential and entrusted me with opportunities that pushed me beyond my comfort zone. Their willingness to invest shaped my career, and it now guides how I strive to support and develop others.
The future of technology will be shaped not only by the infrastructure and ecosystems we build, but by the opportunities we create along the way. Technology may drive transformation, but people determine its direction and outcome. Organisations that invest in partners, empower teams, and open pathways for talent to lead will build stronger ecosystems and ultimately, a more innovative and resilient future for the industry.
