Mon, 27th May 2024

Altium, a provider of electronics design systems, has announced significant investment and expansion in Bangalore, India. This move aims to support the country's burgeoning electronics industry and aligns with the Indian government's 'Make in India' initiative, according to a statement. The expansion involves the opening of a new office space equipped to handle technical and sales operations, and signifies a step forward in Altium's strategy to penetrate new markets and fortify its presence in existing ones.

Pelle Chiari, General Manager and Head of Sales for Altium India, emphasised the company's commitment to integrating India into the global electronics landscape. By establishing a team dedicated to customer engagement, Altium seeks to address the local market's needs more effectively. This expansion is expected to enhance the company's reach and bolster its influence within the electronics sector in India.

India's electronics industry is projected to grow to a US$300 billion industry by 2026. Altium's investment will not only strengthen its foothold within this market but also offer solutions designed to foster innovation, expedite production processes, and reduce costs. One of the key components of Altium's approach includes hosting its Altium 365 cloud platform within India by the second half of 2024. This step aims to ensure optimal performance for local customers while adhering to India's data protection regulations.

Beyond its operational and digital presence, Altium is heavily investing in education to support the long-term growth of India's electronics sector. The company intends to leverage its established Altium Education programs by introducing the Altium Educator Centre, the Altium Student Lab, and the Altium Women’s Scholarship Programme in India. These initiatives will provide free access to professional Altium software, comprehensive curricula, and training resources for educators and students. The goal is to cultivate a skilled workforce of electronic designers who are ready to meet the demands of the Indian market.

Gerard Metrailler, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Software at Altium, highlighted the strategic importance of the investment for both the company and the industry. He noted that Bengaluru, often referred to as the hub of electronics innovation in India, is an ideal location for Altium's expansion. The company expressed its enthusiasm in contributing to the development of Indian electronics through product development and educational initiatives aimed at fostering the next generation of electronic innovators.

With nearly four decades of experience, Altium has been a prominent force in transforming the electronics industry. The company's software tools are widely used across various sectors, including automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, and medical devices, providing vital support to designers and engineers globally. Altium's comprehensive solutions empower enterprises, individual PCB designers, manufacturers, part suppliers, and purchasers, thereby accelerating the development of innovative electronics products.

The latest developments underline Altium's commitment to the Indian market and its wider mission of advancing the global electronics industry, the company states. The company's blend of local investment, technology, and educational support is expected to contribute to the region's electronics sector.
