Veeam unveils new Data Cloud BaaS for Microsoft 365 & Azure
Mon, 4th Mar 2024

Veeam Software, the data protection and ransomware recovery specialist, has announced its latest release, the Veeam Data Cloud - a new Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure.

Built on Microsoft Azure, the new platform guarantees the steadfast reliability expected from the leading data protection services in a user-friendly format. It seeks to provide a solution for users that gathers storage, cloud backup, and ransomware recovery in one convenient package. Veeam Data Cloud supports 18 million users who are currently on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.

Anand Eswaran, CEO at Veeam, noted the projected rise in BaaS usage: "According to the Veeam Data Protection Trends Report 2024, 88% of enterprises were either very likely or almost certain to use a Backup as-a-Service (BaaS) or Disaster Recovery as-a-Service (DRaaS) for at least some of their production servers."

Eswaran asserted that the company has transferred its trusted capabilities from its pre-existing data protection and ransomware recovery services for Microsoft 365 and Azure onto an as-a-service platform. The result is a simplified management and administration service for backup operations that retains the cyber resiliency and reliability associated with Veeam technology.

The blend of the cloud-native design of Veeam Data Cloud with Microsoft Azure's compatible data platform facilitates optimal protection for Microsoft 365 and Azure data. This latest venture promises an out-of-the-box, policy-driven simplicity, with the architecture built on Zero Trust principles. The platform utilises Azure Blob Storage, isolated from production environments, providing safe, secure backups ready for speedy recovery.

John Annand, Principal Research Director at Info-Tech Research Group, commended Veeam's commitment to innovation, observing that, "IT professionals with years of experience and training have found Veeam products easy to configure for their on-premises environments. Veeam Data Cloud alleviates the need to find sought-after experienced professionals to get full value out of it, enabling those experienced professionals to delegate and focus on other tasks."

Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is a brand-new service that builds on the longstanding reliability of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365. The backup service ensures thorough data protection and recovery for Microsoft Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business and Teams. Notable features include a modern, user-friendly web UI, and an all inclusive package covering software, backup infrastructure, and unlimited storage.

Stuart Hudson, Global IT Infrastructure Senior Manager, Strategic Infrastructure Programs at Sun Chemical, highlighted the importance of the secure service saying that, "Veeam Data Cloud protects this essential part of our environment, helping our employees work more productively and giving us an extra layer of cyber resilience. It also frees us from purchasing and managing our own infrastructure for backups, translating into significant cost savings."

For Microsoft Azure, Veeam Data Cloud is the first Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering for Azure backup, providing a ready-to-use, pre-configured backup service that optimises cloud costs and business continuity. The Data Cloud promises a quick return on investment by eliminating obstacles such as implementation, patching, and remediation of misconfigurations, and further claims the 'most customisable RPOs and RTOs'. The new Veeam Data Cloud is now readily available for users.
