Sysdig expands cloud security with new SaaS region in India

Fri, 12th Jul 2024

Sysdig has announced the expansion of its cloud-native security platform with a new software-as-a-service (SaaS) region in India. This move comes as a response to the increasing customer demand and the rapidly growing cloud economy in the region. The new SaaS region will be housed in a localised AWS data centre and is part of Sysdig’s strategy to support India's cloud development with a focus on data sovereignty.

Several prominent customers, including government agencies and some of the largest banks in the region, currently rely on Sysdig for their cloud security needs. Sysdig's new public cloud-based SaaS region will complement its existing six global SaaS regions, providing localised customer support and partnerships with major consulting firms and resellers in India.

The Indian public cloud services market grew to USD $3.8 billion in the first half of 2023 and is projected to exceed USD $20 billion in the next three years. The country is seeing a rapid increase in cloud adoption, with 84% of large organisations already implementing SaaS applications and 53% increasing their use of cloud-native services. This growth is expected to create 14 million new jobs by 2026.

However, the shift to the cloud brings challenges alongside opportunities. The faster nature of cloud environments means that attacks can happen in just 10 minutes, compared to the 16 days typically seen in on-premises environments. This urgency underscores the need for real-time cloud security measures.

Sysdig has developed a unique approach to cloud security that leverages runtime insights to enable security teams to act quickly and make informed decisions. By focusing on runtime threats, Sysdig can help organisations make better security decisions throughout the software development life cycle. The platform is designed to detect and alert users to threats within two seconds, using the open-source Falco project to monitor changes across various environments.

The platform provides comprehensive visibility across cloud-native environments, including containers, Kubernetes, cloud logs, and both Linux and Windows servers. This visibility is essential for effectively protecting an organisation’s entire cloud estate. Additionally, Sysdig allows enterprises to prioritise the threats that matter most by filtering out less significant issues and focusing on vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and runtime threats that pose the greatest risk.

While the new SaaS region runs on AWS, Sysdig secures customer workloads and environments in AWS, GCP, Azure, and other platforms globally. This multi-cloud approach ensures that customers can rely on Sysdig for their cloud security needs regardless of their cloud provider.

Harish Krishnakumar, Senior Market Analyst for Enterprise IT Services and Cloud at IDC India, noted, “Enterprises are increasingly relying on public cloud services as they drive digital transformation and seek agility and operational efficiency. A growing emphasis on cost optimisation continues to accelerate the shift to an as-a-service consumption model, driving the demand for cloud infrastructure services.”

Suresh Vasudevan, CEO of Sysdig, emphasised the importance of real-time cloud security in light of India’s technological advancements. “As India continues to experience meteoric growth, the need for real-time cloud security will surge, and as our current India-based customers know, Sysdig is committed to being a true partner and working together to defeat adversaries,” said Vasudevan.

Gavin Selkirk, Vice President and General Manager of Asia-Pacific and Japan at Sysdig, commented on the impact of this expansion, stating, “Our expansion and investment in India will significantly accelerate our customer footprint while empowering the country’s government and enterprises to innovate in the cloud with confidence and enhanced security.”
