NTT Ltd., a global IT infrastructure and services company, has announced plans to construct its first data center campus in the Paris market. The project, which will be an 84 MW campus located 50km south of Paris, is a significant addition to NTT's existing European portfolio. The new Paris data center will round out the company’s presence in the four largest European data center markets, often termed the FLAP tier, to include Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam and now Paris.
This investment in the Paris market is part of a larger $10 billion global investment from NTT in data center expansion. NTT aims to meet the burgeoning global demand for data, sparked by the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence and similar technologies. This also coincides with the company's goal of achieving net-zero emissions for its operations, alongside a commitment to sourcing 100% renewable energy by 2030.
Doug Adams, CEO and President, NTT Global Data Centers & Submarine Cable, described the new Parisian site as a significant addition to their global offering. He said: "We are pleased to continue to add to our existing portfolio and market share in EMEA and enhance our client offerings to include Paris."
Florian Winkler, Chief Executive Officer EMEA and Global Chief Operating Officer, NTT Global Data Centers, added: "This investment complements our existing and growing presence in Frankfurt, London and Amsterdam, and will complete our footprint in the FLAP Tier 1 markets in Europe. We will develop our presence in the Paris metro area in close partnership with the local municipalities, partners, and the government."
The new data center campus will comprise 14.4 hectares and support a planned capacity of 84 MW of critical IT load across three data centers. The site is located in the municipalities of Le Coudray-Montceaux and Corbeil-Essonnes, close to key digital infrastructure with power reserved for immediate deployment. Logistics Capital Partners (LCP) initially acquired the former brownfield site in 2019 and will remain strategically involved to support the development and delivery of the new campus.
The expansion into the Paris market is the latest in a line of global expansion efforts by NTT to meet the growing need for data centers. Recent announcements from the company have included new data center campuses in Virginia in the United States, and in Noida and Chennai in India, all part of a $10 billion investment in data centers planned for fiscal years 2023-27. The company's stated ambition is to source 100% of its energy from renewable resources by 2030, as part of its journey towards achieving net-zero emissions for its own operations.
