Anritsu enhances accuracy with Network Master Pro MT1040A upgrade
Thu, 8th Feb 2024

Anritsu Corporation, known globally for its innovative communications test and measurement solutions, has announced an upgrade to its Network Master Pro MT1040A. The tech giant has integrated the new interface standard OpenZR+, supported by a multi-rate module, the 400G (QSFP-DD) MU104014B. This latest addition is expected to enhance the evaluation accuracy of networks using OpenZR+ transceivers and ensure their efficient functioning by providing superior cooling performance.

The proactive development of OpenZR+ support comes amidst a rapidly growing demand for Data Center Interconnects (DCI) and metro network construction. As generative AI, cloud services, and advances in digital transformation continue to progress, constraints such as limits on available space, power supply capacity, and air-conditioning pose significant challenges. This has increased the necessity for DCI between a greater number of medium-scale data centres rather than building new hyperscale data centres.

Surpassing the capabilities of the existing Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) systems, OpenZR+ facilitates the construction of cost-efficient networks. Unlike the 400ZR standard, which offers only a short transmission distance and 400G data rate, OpenZR+ supports more considerable transmission distances and data rates ranging from 100G to 400G. It effectively serves extensive network configurations and suits DCI construction, making it an inexpensive alternative to existing WDM systems.

However, OpenZR+ transceivers present a distinctive challenge. They consume nearly 1.5 times as much power as the standard 400ZR transceivers, generating more heat. Therefore, the new MU104014B module provides excellent heat dissipation and cooling performance. Suppressing the surplus heat generated prevents communication failures and enables more accurate transceiver measurement, thus addressing this unavoidable effect of long-haul transmission.

The Network Master Pro MT1040A, now equipped with the 400G Tester, is a B5-size handheld device with impressive expandability and operability. A touch panel-operated field measurement interface complemented by a 9-inch screen facilitates its ease of use. The instrument supports various interfaces, ranging from 10M to 400G, showcasing its versatility.

In conjunction with this announcement, Anritsu will feature new products and services at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona. Set to take place in Hall 5 Stand D41, the event will offer a platform for further industry discussion around the Network Master Pro MT1040A's improvements and wider implications for the networking sector.
