Numecent links Cloudpager to Citrix Studio for VDI
Numecent has introduced a native integration between its Cloudpager platform and Citrix DaaS and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, allowing IT administrators to publish and manage application containers from within Citrix Studio.
The integration is aimed at organisations running virtual desktop infrastructure that want to separate applications from desktop images instead of installing software directly into those images. Numecent says this can reduce image sprawl and simplify desktop and application maintenance across Citrix environments.
Citrix workflow
Administrators can use the integration through Citrix Studio in both cloud-managed and self-managed control plane deployments. This removes the need to switch between separate management consoles to provision Cloudpaging application containers in Citrix DaaS and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
Numecent's approach focuses on containerising applications on a per-user basis. Rather than building large desktop images with software preinstalled, IT teams can attach applications separately. This helps avoid image bloat and reduces the operational burden of maintaining multiple image versions.
The integration is also intended to expand the range of applications that can run in Citrix-based environments, including older Windows software that can be difficult to support in modern desktop estates. Numecent highlighted 16-bit and 32-bit applications among the potential use cases, reflecting the needs of businesses that still rely on them for specific operational systems.
For enterprises running persistent and non-persistent desktops, decoupling applications from the base image could change how desktop delivery is managed. Instead of rebuilding and patching numerous images as application needs change, teams can update applications independently.
This could affect storage use and administrative overhead, especially in larger estates where different business units or user groups require different software stacks. The integration brings those application workflows into the Citrix management environment already used by many desktop administrators.
"Citrix DaaS and CVAD support some of the most demanding enterprise desktop deployments in the world," said Arthur S. Hitomi, chief executive officer and co-founder of Numecent.
"By natively integrating Cloudpager with Citrix DaaS and CVAD, we've made it easier than ever to containerize and provision even the most stubborn legacy applications and software suites to any user across persistent and non-persistent desktops. This approach removes application deployment friction, reduces image sprawl, and strengthens business continuity by making applications instantly portable across Citrix DaaS and CVAD environments," he said.
Recovery focus
Numecent also positioned the integration as a tool for disaster recovery and cyber incident response. In the event of a site failure or ransomware attack, IT teams could bring up a clean Citrix DaaS or Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment and then restore applications from the cloud through Cloudpager.
The idea is that separating the application layer from desktop images can reduce recovery times because organisations do not need to rebuild each image with its full software stack before users regain access. Instead, they can restore desktop environments first and then repopulate applications as needed.
This emphasis reflects a broader shift in virtual desktop and end-user computing strategy, where resilience and operational simplicity have become more important alongside cost control. Businesses are under pressure to support legacy applications, maintain secure environments, and recover more quickly from disruption without adding infrastructure complexity.
Citrix said the integration aligns with customer demand for a more flexible way to manage application delivery within established desktop environments.
"Our customers continue to look for flexible, enterprise-ready approaches to modernizing application delivery within their Citrix DaaS and CVAD environments," said Shawn Bass, senior vice president and general manager of Citrix DaaS.
"With this integration of Cloudpager with Citrix DaaS and CVAD, we're giving organizations a streamlined way to package and deploy application containers within their existing workflows, while maintaining the performance and reliability they expect," he said.
Ferroque Systems, a Citrix-focused consultancy, said the integration addresses customer concerns about complexity and resilience in desktop estates.
"Organisations are under constant pressure to simplify operations while ensuring resilience against disruption," said Todd Hsu, president of Ferroque Systems.
"The native integration of Cloudpager into Citrix Studio is a meaningful step forward, giving our customers the ability to decouple applications from images, reduce complexity, and accelerate recovery in the face of outages or cyber events. It enables a more agile, app-centric approach to VDI that aligns with how enterprises are modernizing their digital workspace strategies," he said.
