Kacific wins SIG award for Asia-Pacific satellite internet push

Today

Kacific Broadband Satellites Group has been recognised with the Best Cooperation Award at the Satcoms Innovation Group 2025 Awards for its work in expanding internet connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Satcoms Innovation Group (SIG), which focuses on fostering innovation in satellite communications to enhance efficiency and reduce operational impacts, grants awards to acknowledge exceptional technologies, solutions and contributions within the satellite sector.

Kacific had previously received the same award in 2022 for its collaboration with GuarantCo and was presented with the Innovation of the Year award in 2024 for its CommsBox product.

The latest recognition by SIG underscores Kacific's ongoing efforts to address connectivity challenges in areas where terrestrial infrastructure remains costly or impractical. By utilising Ka-band satellite technology via its Kacific1 satellite and developing deployment models with regional partners, the organisation aims to provide affordable high-speed internet to communities with limited digital access.

Kacific has implemented a range of connectivity models to address diverse needs. Among these is Gigstarter, a prepaid offering providing flexible, unlimited internet plans. The FlexVNO model delivers dedicated wholesale bandwidth tailored for internet service providers and telecom operators, while CommsBox is a portable, all-in-one solution intended for emergency situations where rapid internet deployment is necessary.

Other delivery models include PointCast, an auto-pointing satellite system designed for fast installation without the need for specialist personnel, and PointCast Go, a portable terminal aimed at enabling rapid high-speed internet deployment for emergency response teams, mobile personnel and remote operations.

Collaboration has played a significant role in Kacific's expansion strategy, with partnerships involving governments, non-governmental organisations, and global initiatives. In the Philippines, the company has worked alongside Microsoft Airband, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, and the United Nations Development Programme to develop digital infrastructure, support disaster resilience, and encourage economic growth in underserved areas.

Christian Patouraux, Chief Executive Officer of Kacific, stated, "Kacific is a leader in bridging the digital divide in the Asia-Pacific region." Patouraux continued, "Collaboration has been essential in overcoming the challenges of deploying satellite broadband, driving innovation, and making high-speed, affordable internet more accessible."

He added, "While our expertise lies in satellite technologies and managed tower services, it's through strong partnerships that we're able to expand network infrastructure—ultimately supporting critical initiatives in education, healthcare, and disaster response."

Kacific's operations have involved over 500,000 end users and a network of more than 600 internet service providers, distributors and resellers. The company has connected more than 3,379 schools and 378 healthcare facilities across the region. In the Philippines, over 1,200 sites have been rapidly deployed as part of national digital initiatives.

The connectivity provided has enabled micro and small businesses, supported online education, and facilitated remote work in underserved areas. In addition, Kacific's solutions have enhanced disaster response capabilities by ensuring reliable communication during emergencies and have contributed to increased digital inclusion and reduced broadband costs in rural communities.

To date, Kacific has collected more than 60 industry accolades, recognising its delivery of internet services that aim to be cost-effective, reliable and scalable, while contributing to socio-economic objectives in education, healthcare and economic development.

Kacific has expressed its appreciation for SIG's recognition and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of satellite communications and its expansion across the Asia-Pacific.
